Give Back Day 2012 – Stowe
What a day!

This year’s Camp Ta-Kum-Ta proved more special and, I believe, more rewarding than our previous two Give Back Days at the Camp. Not only do we have the day’s events and processes down very well, which made the PSMS Team more productive than ever, but we had a visit from Grace, a long time “camper” at Camp Ta-Kum-Ta. Grace helped us remember our own blessings and very quietly reminded us why Camp Ta-Kum-Ta occupies a very special place in the hearts of our company.

Around 9:00 p.m. on Thursday night I found myself more physically and emotionally drained than ever, but also feeling so blessed to work with such a terrific group of people who worked incredibly hard and have huge hearts! Given the comments I received throughout the day today, I know many of you felt the same way.

Thanks to the awesome team from PSMS Stowe that made the day so special. You’re amazing and I thoroughly enjoy working, and laughing, with each and every one of you. The team from Stowe:

Kevin & Allison Lane Dominique Couture
Victor Vesnaver Lee St. Onge
Matt Lane Rick Downing
Susan Beattie Tammy McGuriman
Mark Bevis Jim Osborne
Michelle LaBarge Sandy Reeks
Brian Campbell Steve & Stephanie Cunningham
Rob & Jen Selwah Alan Ouellette
Earl Walters Chris & Andrea Donahue
Charlie Castor Kim Ferrer
Melissa & Mike Manley Amanda Wisell
Tricia Majetich Maureen McLaughlin
Ahmad Abdel-Mawgood
Dave McGuriman and Kevin Rett deserve an extra “shout out.” Dave and Kevin signed up for Give Back Day, but needed to stay behind to assist with the LVOC telephone and network outage. Thanks, guys, for volunteering to go to the Camp, but then staying behind to take care of some critical PSMS issues.

And, finally, a hearty thanks to Dominique, Melissa, Tricia, and Michelle for helping plan and execute various parts of the event and making the day a complete success. Another well-executed day, thanks to your efforts.

A number of people have asked me about helping plan next year’s event, and we already received a number of great ideas to help make the day even more special. If you want to help plan next year’s event, please let Dominique know as soon as possible. We welcome your ideas. Also, we may have a few interim events throughout the summer if people have an interest.

Have a wonderful weekend and thanks again for your generosity and hard work!

Earlier this summer, Lake Champlain International (LCI) was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to donate fishing poles and tackle to Camp Ta-Kum-Ta in South Hero, VT. A camp for kids who have recovered from or are currently battling cancer, Ta-Kum-Ta is expanding their offerings so they can provide the best summer camp experience possible. With the addition of the donated fishing equipment, up to 30 kids can now experience the joys and excitement of fishing at one time, with the potential for thousands of children to enjoy fishing with the same equipment. ”We know how much fun fishing is, and we hope that sharing this with so many kids who have gone through a lot at a young age will add an enjoyable experience to their childhoods,” said LCI’s Director of Conservation & Education, Ross Saxton. “Fishing is a terrific way to relax and de-stress so we hope getting these kids out on the water and catching some fish will help them recover faster.”

LCI thanks Camp Ta-Kum-Ta for this partnership, and all of LCI’s supporters for helping make partnerships like this possible.

The 2011 Community Excellence Award, given to an individual for his or her unique service to the community, was presented to Patrick Gallivan, vice president for institutional advancement at St. Michael’s College in Colchester.

“Tonight’s recipient has given countless hours of his time, over many years, to numerous community organizations,” Grimes said. “Because of his efforts, our region is a much better place to live and work.”

In addition, he has served as chairman of the board of Burlington College, where he was “instrumental in their re-accreditation process,” Grimes said. Gallivan has volunteered at Camp Ta Kum Ta in South Hero, which provides programs for children with cancer and their families, for more than 15 years.

“He has served as a camp volunteer and was instrumental in helping them move from Colchester to South Hero,” Grimes said of Gallivan. “He has organized volunteer groups to help with needed projects and is always right there, with paint brush in hand, to get the work done.”

Gallivan said: “The things we all do collectively make us better as individuals.”
